Gday guys this is my 1998 el futura, had it for a little while now. Its a factory 5 speed, stock other than extractors, 2.5" exhaust and lowered. Recenty i pulled out the motor/box and resealed all gaskets, seals and welsch plugs, put in a new stock clutch while i was at it. Also put in a turbo drain into the sump in preperation for some boost!
The el is getting one of our new mach2 series 2 turbo kits. Heres some pics of the new turbo kit featuring the new spider turbo manifold. Planning a very basic setup, 5-6psi, j3 with stock injectors, keeping 2.5" exhaust etc haha have to give the t5 and stock clutch a fighting chance |

Good stuff! That new manifold looks great, turbo placement looks better compared to the older version too I reckon.
Will be good to see how this build develops |

Its boosted, suprised how quick we got it done. Started at 10.30am after picking up the last bits i needed and backed out the drive at 4.30pm same day, 6hrs later! We did have everything ready to go and the drain was already installed though. Intercooler isnt fitted for now until i get some free time next fortnight unfortunately. Timing is way back under boost for now to keep it from pinging as hotter intake temps. Boost shows as low as 1500rpm in 5th which is a huge improvement on the old manifolds. I took pics along the way of the install.
First up fitting the oil feed plate and fittings Standard engine bay before removing airbox, intake and exhaust manifold Removed the stock exhaust manifold and air intake Next heatwrapped everything that may melt from the extreme heat Fitted the turbo manifold up and heat sleeves for spark plug leads Fitted the wastegate up leaving bolts loose untill dump pipe and turbo lined up Fitted up the dump pipe and turbo, rotate housings as required, fit up oil feed line and drain Joined the dump pipe to exhaust system Fitted the intake system up, fit the wastegate line to before the throttle blade so it never sees vac only boost. Finally loaded a base tune on j3 chip, started and checked for leaks and went for a test drive, did 3hours in peak hr traffic and nothing melted or overheated so the heatwrap works well. New heatshield under development now too. More pics coming of intercooler install etc |

Try a home made Meth / water kit and fit jets between turbo and T/B...
Can be activated by Hobbs switch which turns on, on boost.. Water keeps combustion temps down and Meth keeps inlet temps down.. Plus it adds some fuel.. Heaps of info Google water / meth kits..

Yea water/meth inj is the s**t run it on my red eb allowed extra 8degrees timing, only thing putting me off it for this car is forgetting to keep water topped up as the missus drives it a fair bit. Maybe if i could make up a low water level warning it could be the go as well as the cooler.

Well the stock fuel pump took a crap after 700kms of 75psi base pressure, not really suprised haha got a 023 on order for it now. Ordered a water/meth injection kit for it as well, prob fit it before i get around to doing the cooler and having the front bar resprayed as its stone chipped bad.

Do a water to air cooler, no holes to cut then.

Looking good mate! I love that new manifold, I can see why it's called 'the spider'. Keep up the good work

Here are some pics of fuel pump install. Its an aeroflow equivalant of an intank bosch 023. Cradle needed to be straightened and rebent so the pump fits and also sits low enough.

Measured my intake air temps today Today was only 20degrees and after a zero to 150ks run it shot up to 95degrees! This is on 8psi. Cruising and light acceleration were 60-65 and idle was down to 55-60. From cuise at 60 degrees, temps were up to 75 from just winding out 2nd gear. The car feels strong just giving it a squirt here an there and temps quickly drop back to 60-65 but as soon as extended boosting occurs power disapears rapidly. So tomorrow im installing the water inj kit and ill be really interested in the temp drops, im expecting they will still be far to high until the cooler is installed though. Been far too busy with work and a new baby.

That manifold looks pretty cool, oh and you were right about my wastegate spring haha my "10psi" spring actually only made about 6 psi, but it was ok cause low boost was set to 7psi and high boost was 10 psi.
Where did you get your heat wrap from? i need some for mine. Do you know what brand it is? Cheers

Oh well xr6_corbin at least you can have a low boost and high boost now. The heatrwap is off ebay cant remember brand was from nz seller, dont bother paying extra for the black stuff mines turned white already!
Got the water inj kit installed, just using one m10 nozzle with water, tested it flows 760cc p/min. Has made a massive difference power wise even though temps still rise to 85degrees on a big run. Previous best 0-100 was an embarrasing 7.3, today i ran a 6.7 0-100, so ive gained .6 second quicker from just spraying water no changes to tune yet. Gteching over the 400m i have gained 3mph as well so far which is good. Goin to get some methanol soon to test, from what ive read its cabable of cooling the charge a lot further than water. Also i feel having the pod filter sucking hot engine bay air is hurting things a fair bit and is the reason my cruise temps are so high. Im waiting on adding any timing untill i wire up the low level warning light for the tank. |

Get an EB-ED XR6, FAIRMONT ETC radiator overfill, unscrew the water level guage and screw it into the water/meth tank at the height you want it to always remain above for safety.
