im going to be pulling the bottom end down in the shed after the utes been polished up etc going to see if i can get away with a set of rings possibly bearings and a new timing chain kit. Really depends on condition of everything else but if i can get away with it i know it will be better then getting a motor from the wreckers that i cant hear running, then use the head off my current motor just clean the ports up abit and get it shaved.

today i went to repco to price some parts i knew it would cost abit but its abit more then i had in mind

conrod bearings - $66.99
main bearings - $163.00
rings - $258.00
gasket set - $316.00
all that comes to $803.99

i forgot to price a timing chain kit but from memory the last one i bought was between $100 and $150 then i also need lifters :(

going to cost me over a grand just in parts, my brother inlaw can get exchange bottom ends for about $1500. but then i still have to get the lifters and all done :|

That is one damn clean looking ute mate.

I got an ACL Race Series Rebuild kit for my EL for less than that, and that came with mains and conrod bearings, new high comp pistons, rings and a gasket set, so might be worth seeing how much a kit is. A non race series kit shouldn't be much more than $500. Got mine from an engine rebuilder though, that might be the key

i did some more to the tray today basically now ready for paint i probably wont bother about fixing any of the dents just give it a paint to tidy it up as i dont feel like spending alot of time straightening out the wheel tubs and floor to put some stuff in the back and have them dented :P heres a pic.

Image

i gave it a coat of matt white i found in the shed but the paint was pretty s**t and didnt really cover very well  ahwell it will be painted shortly.
