i assume bolting it up is easy but dont you have to use the ef el ecu? that is the part that has me scratching my head lol! if you can find the doco let me know mate i need to find out some more about the wiring cheers |

yeah bolts up like the stock ones, you dont need the EL ECU unless you want the BBM to switch. apart from that you can buy a RPM switch and have it setup that way

i want to swap the ecu over aswell so it all works as it shuld. do i just need the bbm loom and plug n play or is the some soldering involved |

You have to run wires from the ECU to the BBM switch, add a pin to the ECU plug, arrange the VAC hoses so the BBM solenoid works. It can be done with crimp connectors if you want, or use solder for a better result.

Ok so i have been doing a little more reserch and im building up a bit more a detaild plan on how i want to mod the ED.
Im still pulling the head off in january to do the gasket and upgrade the cam. But further mods will be compleated in this order (i hope). I would like to source a cheap EF for these 2 mods. Thermo fan setup. Serpentine Belt setup. Plus i will be able to salvadge many other parts,BBM, seats, door trims, pedal box for T5 conversion, cluster, door handles, side mirrors, suspention maybe preffer EL suspention, Break setup, ECT. Next up will come the BBM and EL ECU. I will need to source a EL fairmont ghia ECU for the XR6 mapping. and the fact that the EF ECU was set up for the coil pack and went back to the dizzy in the EL T5 conversion!! I have been reading snap0964's doco on Auto pedal box modification and it looks good but given my welding and machining experiance i would like to explore a different approch to modding the pedal box. Im thinking of having 1 straight shaft for both pedals. i am aware that the clutch pedal and break pedal shafts are different hights so may have to extend the the clutch pedal, but untill i pull one out and have it infront of me i wont be sure if i can redesign it. (snap no offence intended your method is clearly a well thort out solution to a disapointing design flaw in ford design) I would also like to explore modding the clutch setup with a hydrualic setup. I dont see this to be a very hard mod, the hardest part would be finding a sutible setup from a different make of car. mounting the hydraulic cyilinder to to the bell housing will be made possible buy setting up the bell housing on a mill and machining a flat on the side where the clutch fork is plus a few holes for mounting. Other things to consider will be finding a hydrualic cylinder based on how it is mounted to the bell housing of the car it is coming off of. The reason why i would like to look into this one is all the posts i have seen about ripping firewalls ect, (i know you can reinforce the firewall) and if a can set it up right ill have the piece of mind that i will have a reliable setup. Electrical! I would like to put in a trip computer (im sure every man and his dog would have done this mod by now). EF/EL cluster with custom face. Just a Moddist head unit (im not into subs and all the rest), and with usb ( i like that idea) Cosmetics! I would love to put EF XR8 mags on it (the turbine ones) but that will be one of the last things i will even think of doing, same as a spirnt kit (or similar) XR front and tinting. Im sure there will be other things i will find i will like to do but i think i have a fair bit on my plate for now! Any feed back would be appreciated. |

Sounds like a fair and achievable plan there Josh.
I look forward to it coming all together. Re the Pedal Box, I am using a snap0964 modified pedal box, and it is great. If you can improve on the design that will benefit us all. I will also be exploring the Hydralic Clutch setup next year. Cheers BenJ

Cheers BenJ thanks for the reply BenJ my next hurdle will be finding a EF with a blown head gasket or stuffed transmission at the right price and still have all the bits i am after in good nick. I also realised i need a pedal box from a ED so i have a handbreak mount. |

Where does the clutch cable mount to at the bell housing end? I ask because I remember an after market hydraulic clutch actuator we used on our off road race car. VW's were originally cable clutch and we converted ours to hydraulic with one of these actuators. It mounted where the cable would normally go. I am sure a rear mount could be fabricated so the current clutch cable mount could be utilised. This could be an avenue for you to explore too....
Cheers RD

Found a pic on the net of the system we used. Surely there are others around to suit a Ford application that would save sourcing and f@rt around with a bell housing.
That little blue thing is the acutator, slave cyl.... Cheers RD You do not have the required permissions to view the files attached to this post.

Cheers RD Thanks for replying i have done a search on google and all i have found at this stage is a kit that suits mustangs and they are not cheap about $419.95 have a look here http://www.autoworksracing.com/65-70%20 ... h_kits.htm It does say its for a T5 and it has all mounting brackets needed but a mustang bellbousing i belive would be no way close to being the same as a falcon bellhousing? Having said that i think an XD V8 hydraulic clutch setup would be a lot cheaper (might find second hand in good condition) |
