So with the EL side lined until it gets sprayed, i needed a daily..

picked up an AU Ghia on the cheap in need of a little TLC to get me around in the mean time.

cons-
needs 4 tyres
brake pads and rear rotors to be replaced due to significant gauging
abs and traction control lights permanently on, signally a problem
drivers door has a nasty dent
front leather seats are very worn in, and rear seat has a few nasty tears
unregistered

pros-
V8 and transmission run smooth
paintwork (excluding drivers door) is in decent nick
tow pack (which will come in very handy getting the EL around)
all electrics seem in good working order
230 tho kms on the clock
it has an exhaust already, but not sure on the size/brand... pretty quiet until it is opened up

as it is going to be a daily, im hoping not to spend a whole lotta money on it... but the usual mods will happen, springs, rims, extractors, intake etc

there is of course, always the chance that i will get excited when some things pop up on evilbay and spend spend spend...

anyways, best start a thread up

if anyone has any ideas on what could be causing the warning lights for the ABS and traction control shout out

went about changine the front pads today, along with the usual other bits and pieces when buying an older car; oil & filter change, new air filter, flushed the radiator and topped up the empty power steering fluid.

ordered some RDA rear rotors to replace the crapped out ones so will replace the rear pads when they show. once all thats done it should be nice and road worthy, so i'll get it into my name and we're in business.

pulled out the tachy stock cassette/6 stacker and chucked in an ipod compatible player that i had lying around from a previous car, and there was a problem with the wiring for the rear speakers, so i just re wired all with better quailty wires. Will probably chuck in an amp to make use of the standard sub as well

ABS and Traction lights could be a dodgy sensor in the rear.

Im only guessing here and seen a fair few come up on the commodore websites and usually links back to faulty tailight globes, brake switches, alternator earth, and dodgy abs module/sensors

Its a start anyway

Thanks, I have limited knowledge of these parts, so will check with a mechanic anyhow, just good to have an idea when I go in. No matter how vague

pulled of the front wheels and gave the ABS sensors a clean tonight... warning light is still on though. would there be sensors for the rears also?

i found, on AFF, a place that will repair ABS units for $250, so that will be my next option after getting it checked out

also made the dash a bit grandpa spec with a dash matt

Front and rear sensors.

Before you start throwing money, just get a diagnostics done.

If it is your sensors, i sold a full set on ebay bout a month or so ago. Im sure you can pick em up cheap from wreckers. Sold the set for like $30

Easy to install from memory

Also check out
documents.php?d=2

And dash mats are cool :P

Thanks mate, i, having trouble locating the rear sensors, you got any advice as to where they would be/look like compared to the fronts?

Did you happen to pick the Ghia up from over near Nowra by any chance?

So now I'm broke after fixing the AU up and registering it, but god damn it's good to be behind the wheel of an 8. Now hopefully I can start putting money aside for the real project. Painting (and possibly boosting) the el.

In the mean time I will dribble little bits into this one, located a nice set of super low front and rears for only 250 posted. Can't decide between that, or a 3" exhaust.

I was worried that i was always going to be putting fuel into this bus, and after 3 days of driving around town (constantly) i know what kind of mileage i can get to a tank. averge L/kms was sitting on around 12.9. which equates to a healthy 520km tank. pretty happy with that. especially considering my old au2 forte was getting between 550 and 600..

mostly driving sensibly, but boys will be boys, and there was the occasional squirt in there

That's pretty good economy, and better than what I'm currently getting out of my Eb Ghia I6! I think I need a new o2 sensor lol.

Cheers

I must be a impatient kid with a sugar rush then cos my squirts here and there are generally separated by minutes only :(

However for a big V8, last time i checked, was round 13.8L per 100kms and its constantly like that. Use premium petrols

Haha, I think double demerits this wkd has helped tone me down. Yeah only using premium, stupid stuff ain't cheap
