I think you'll find they aren't chromed, but polished rather. You can do this yourself - or you can try and find a polishing place in the phone book.

Scott - you can get places to electroplate parts (aka chrome)...there is a place in Nunawading that does it :

Nunawading Specialised Electroplaters Pty Ltd
328 Whitehorse Rd Nunawading VIC 3131
Ph: (03) 9894 1741

Also speak to Rmyers (on this forum or ES) - I know he had some stuff done recently...a BBM was one of the things he had done along with some plumbing for his supercharger (AFAICT)...AFAIK he paid ~$300 for it.

I have also got some stuff done, but I'm undecided whether I get it done again - anyway - here's a pic of rmyers gear :

$300, nice. A lot easier than the f**k hours of polishing I've been doing.

One thing though, how do they get rid of the texture in the materials??? Or is it still there?

When you electroplate a metal piece, can it rub off?
Like is it a coating or is it something they do to the metal as such?
If its a coating, would it come off easy or is it quite tough?
Few bits i would like done, any details of places in melb that are known to be good and not too costly, please post up or pm me :)

ta

Umm Daniel - read my post :) It's a starting point - yes it does come off under extreme conditions - look at pyroay's dump pipe for example.

electroplating should not come off under normal use as it is basically "welded by electricity" in laymens terms to the metal that is to be coated

I read your post steve, the location doesnt suit me is all, and was just seeing if anyone else knew of any out my area, if i have to travel then so be it i guess..
What has happened to Aarons dump pipe, chipping off or extreme heat ruin it?

Thanks disco, answered my Q perfectly - cheers.

Daniel - Heard of a telephone ? Nunawading isn't exactly east of jesus mate :) At least it's on your side of town *read not on the west side*.

Seriously - speak to one of these places over the phone...why hear second hand information when you can get it straight from the horses mouth per-se :)

JFYI, if you want the 'full sexy' treatment, Jet Hot ({DESCRIPTION}) do what they call a high lustre finish (not suitable for turbo work)...they do lots of Hot Rod work and wait for it - they're located in Castlemane - so there ya go...how's Nunawading look now  lol !

If someone can show me something that will last for getting turbo parts done, please let me know - everyone I've seen who has gone to pretty up their turbo stuff has had it peel...I know Aaron got some bits ceramic coated and it's still not holding as ideal (Aaron - that's what Brian tells me - correct me if I am wrong!).

Steve - Yes I've heard of a telephone, but as this is the very first time I've considered this I'd rather get a feel for what they do and what type of people do it before I jump in n start calling people.
I can tell you first hand, nothing is more ****ing annoying than when you get people who call you and they don't know wtf they are talking about lol.. I know Nunawading isn't that far, jeezus im not daft for Christ sake, im just lazy and now dont like driving further than I have to.
Outer SE melb is a big area, and Im sure there are electroplaters in dandenong/hallam not to mention polishers or chrome platers; I have now found a few in Dande and have sent them emails with pics of the items id like done attached inc sizes asking for general quotes; if they wish to they have my number to have a chat and we can take it from there.

Gone are the days where we drive countless km's to drop things off, call in to get quotes and drop in to ask Q's - I know for a fact your a young man whos in touch with his modern technology, why drive further than you have to when you can email and then have a chat to someone much more local

Anyhow, what Im saying is shut up Steve, i will make move when i know wtf im talking about, still researching - as are you?. :o

Shut up ? lol - take a chill pill dude - have I not informed you of :

1) Elecotrplating place in Nunawading - hey, I'm sure they would be willing to help you out if you had questions for them - how hard is it to say "What do you do and how much does it cost ?" That's what they're there for and I believe that's how people go about business nowadays no ? Not telling you to drive countless kms like a mofo - wtf ?! lol

2) Jet hot - they are a HUGE hotrod place - ask ANYONE around in the know...everyone goes to Castlemane for $hit like that !

I doubt any of us on here are actual electroplaters / chrome platers / metal polishers etc - so I was simply pointing you in the right direction - no need to go all girly / defensive on me lol

I know you're fastidious with your car - hence why I mentioned JET HOT (checkout their website linked earlier if you haven't already).

People wouldn't consider / dealing with them (including myself) if they were not one of the better (if not the best) place around for this kind of work.

PS - I spoke with JET HOT about 6 months ago...spoke with a bloke for around 10-15 mins - very helpful - learned more about the whole process straight from the horses mouth, than looking at pretty pictures / reading forums.

PPS, You shutup Daniel :D (J/K mate!)
