Just did an auto service on my ED - found a whole pile of metal chunks stuck to the magnet in the pan, so now i need a new transmission, anyone got a decent secondhand one they wanna sell to me (prefer an ED upwards transmission) and could someone advise me if an AU trans or V8 trans will fit my car with minimal stuffing around (opens up my options) im in geelong so anywhere within about 50-70 K's is ok will pay good $$$$$ for a decent transmission.

Hey mate

If the metal chucks are a copperish colour, dont worry so much about it, its the tranny cooler in your radiator falling apart. Fit a external one and it'll be good for another while yet

if they are all silver and quite chunky....thats another matter, but if its still shifting ok, it should live for a little while yet

nah mate they are large and silver coloured, im not sure but thats usually what happens when the bearing around the output shaft deteriorates and blocks the oil flow to 4th (or i may be talking through my a***)

Bell housing and input shafts are the main difference in the tranny's. Going for a V8 one would probably be more expensive than an AU 6 cyl tranny, cause you would need to change the bellhousing and input shaft.

$450 is not a bad price I think.
