to be honest i dont even know what it is!!! i'll have to ask fraser.. jaycar do have reed switches.. i dunno if thats what im after thoough!! thanks!

reed switches are a switch that have 2 metallic strips in them that get pulled together when a magnet is placed sufficiently close to them, thereby completing the circuit
where does it say to use a reed switch (doco?)

I've got one but I'll be using it eventually.
The fuel flap is set up exactly like the doors, i.e. 180 ohms flap closed, 1380 ohms flap open. If you can't get the proper reed s/w, there may be enough room with the mounting bracket in the fuel fill compartment to fit a modified door courtesy switch, which can operate a changeover relay which switches between a 180 ohm & 1380 ohm resistor. Hope this makes sense . . . . .

Thats for the fuel flap, but wasnt he wanting the door ajar. If so, why not just use the factory switch for the doors, the easiest way to get them is from the lower section of the BEM. I used this as it gives my alarm all four doors if they are opened, and i didnt have to run individual switches, just cant remember which wire from the BEM it was

An alternative is to wire up to each door courtesy light switch, a relay/resistor/diode setup, but these guys want to preferably have the factory setup.

Okay guys, here is my reed switch which I installed for my door ajar circuit. It's an original factory one designed specifically for our fuel filler door cavity.

you can't use a regular switch which makes contact with two electrical parts - you are next to the fuel filler ... so I'll let you guess what a spark might do .......

I noticed on my wagon's flap that it isn't - the reed s/w and grommet are a straight fit.

The magnet is mounted within a small plastic frame which you can see in the above pic and will clip directly into the matching empty socket in your fuel filler door. When I clipped mine on I noticed that the plastic clips were a little worn so I mixed up some epoxy and placed it on the back of the magnet frame wherever it would touch the fuel filler door. It will never fall off I guarentee you!

G'day Fraser. No mate not difficult at all. One of the two wires you can see just plugs into pin 7 of the 12 pin plug and the other is just ground as are the rest of the door sensor switches too. In the end you will have 5 ground wires from the door and reed switches that you can just wind together and ground in one lot.
