Am looking for a set of power window motors to fit to my wife's EF Fairmont. Preferably NSW for ease of pickup but will consider interstate if shipping is reasonable. Post your price and we'll go from there.

Thanks
RD

HI matey

Thanks for that, I desperately need the two LH units (passenger & rear door) to replace the dodgy/stuffed mechs in my wifes EF Mont. Will wait if it is OK until someone else comes forward.

Cheers
RD

I've got a LHF and RHF one Bruce - can swap for whatever.
You can repair them - what's the problem ??

Hi snap

The LH front makes grinding noises going up, down seems to be reasonable. The LH rear will go down eventually but struggles real bad going up, sometimes will not lift off the bottom anymore than a centimeter. This door I pulled apart and unbolted the window from the winder. It did go up and down easier but "caught" 1/3 to 1/2 way up. I took it out of the door and lubed absolutely everything I could with silicon spray (I know that not the best thing but all I had) and it made a little difference but still not anywhere the way it should be. I also lubed the window runners the same way and it goes up and down real easy, basically it became a PITA when trying to bolt everything back in. Once I bolted the winder and window back up again, it wouldn't lift the window.

I am basically after a fullish set as there are these 2 windows on the EF and my ED hybrid's drivers window is doing the same as the EF's passenger window.

I am having thoughts of taking the winders out of my ED to stick in the EF so I can blue slip it. I'll just throw the dodgies in the ED until I can get replacements.

If the motors and drums are okay, the whole cable assy's and slider from the manual winders will fit - the cables are different lengths, so you'll need to elongate the motor mount holes in the door skin.

Sounds like in yours that the cable plastic guide tubes near the drums are FUBAR.

Well you can have a good look at the suspect ones as well.

I learn something new every day, never knew that. If you mean teh guide tubes down near where the cable enters the black thing on the motor, then I suspect you are correct. The cable is flopping around at both ends at that point.....

I have a full set of manual winders from my EL wagon sitting in the garage. Was tempted to stick the rears in the EF :)

That was sorta the way I was thinking (well now I am anyway :) )

RD, I can lend you some electric winders, which I wish to keep as spares, so you can blue slip the Fairmont this week, if you like.

That's them - take the drum cover off, most likely those tubes are broken.

I am going to put Ben's spares in for blue slip and then I can dissect the originals. I take it that it is "simply" a case of swapping the block bits between a manual winder and the power motor? For some reason the manual winder rails (the ones that the window rides up and down on) looks a little different in it's construction (they came from a 98 EL) to the 96 EF ones, not that that would make much difference in the winder area (he says with blind confidence :))

If they're all rockwell units (factory), it should be okay - aftermarket units may be a hassle, as I have noticed their design can be different.
Can't remember as it's been a while - I think I may've swapped the cables and slider onto the PW bracket.
You'll most likely find that on the PW sliders that the hex cable swage on the up cable has worn into the plastic slider, and it can go through, causing the window to drop.

I think they are both Rockwell, I'll take a pic of them soon to confirm.

The window always went up fully and was tight once it got there. It was just the process of going up that was causing the problem. I have Ben's spare in there now and it is all sweet. I did take a good look at the removed motor and the white thingo coming out of the black thingo is totally gone on one end, right as you picked it. After I have a piece of paper that says I can rego this thing I'll take a look at what I can do.....
