Exactly as the topic says.
The tailshaft is to upgrade from the steel shaft, it's to go on a ED SEDAN, NOT WAGON. I'm willing to go at least 1 hours drive away from me to pick it up. Thanks.

It is, It's lighter, and its designed not to snap at high speeds (please do not assume that I will be doing this on the road). The tailshaft is silver looking (means it's alloy), the steel tailshafts have a black tinge to them. XR6/8's are the only cars that came out STANDARD with the alloy tailshaft. That doesn't mean to say that cars that are not xr6/8 don't have the alloy shaft as you can always take them from the xr6/8's and put it on your falcon, etc.

All E-series wagons come with an Alloy shaft.
I've spotted a few XR's without alloy's also. Sorry can't help ya on the search.

Will a wagon tailshaft fit my ED SEDAN? If some xr's don't have an alloy tailshaft then I would assume that at some point someone's taken it out and put a steel one in it and used the alloy shaft for some project. But it is to my understanding that by standard out the factory the xr's had the alloy shaft.

No, as fairlanes and stationwagons have longer tailshafts, than standard falcon, fairmont sedans.

But it is to my understanding that by standard out the factory the xr's had the alloy shaft.[/quote] ok if the alloy tailshaft was damaged, ford will quote around $1000 to replace new,so you buy a cheap steel one,$100-300 bucks, long wheel base cars get alloy shafts for a easy fix to a lot of problems, unis, flex, drive angles, weight and length, and cheaper than a 2 piece shaft.measure your tail shaft from the centre of both uni joints and thats the length you need, then put new unis in and your gear box drive yoke, the you will need to rebalance the whole lot and see if the shaft is straight, might pay to change the white metal bearing and seal, also check the yoke for wear-inside and out,if its loose it will vibrate and transmitt to the shaft. almost forgot,n.t. xrs got alloy tail shafts with a kevlair sleeve wrap to stop the shafts snapping,at the time n.t. had no speed limit, thats why all cars where trailed there, and test run.
